Whooper swan is a Northern species. At a time it was about to become extinct in our country. But mainly because of the protection work initiated by Yrjö Kokko this species is nowadays in good stock and fairly common both in the Northern part of Finland as well as Mid-Finland. The nose of a Whooper swan is yellow and its neck is straight. The young of these species are gray, and their coloring will turn white by the next summer. Swan’s nutrition consists of vegetation in the water and on the surrounding shores, as well as of the little animals inhabiting these areas.
